The inagural run of the first race of its kind, the Navy Ten Nautical Miler. Why ten nautical miles? Because that's approximately the distance from the horizon to the beach, and that's how far the troops had to travel, under heavy enemy fire, to reach the beach on D-Day.
For you landlubbers, a 10 nautical mile race is similar in length to a half-marathon.
For more information on the race, contact Lt. Cmdr. Isabelle Detter at 901-874-5901, or

This sounds awesome!
