As we close out another year, let’s take a quick look back. Heading into 2016, we decided to streamline TRAC by reducing our board to five members, eliminating the paid memberships and focusing on fewer things to allow for more quality. While we eliminated the Grand Prix and made the difficult decision to forego Huff ‘n Puff, I believe we were successful with our approach. We were able to establish a walk/jog/run group called Most Mondays (meets on Mondays at 6:00 pm in front of the Shoals Theater). Our three-week long cross country camp was a huge success. At our annual Handy week dinner meeting, we announced that we had partnered with Junior League of the Shoals and Sheffield Kiwanis to bring back Huff ‘n Puff in March, 2017. Killen Founder’s Day and Dam Bridge Run continued to thrive. We even re-introduced the River Bottom Burnout 1 Mile, an RRCA state championship, in October with two new state records established. And, we gave this website a bit of a makeover thanks to the good work of Jake Ford at ICS.
Heading into 2017, we have elected new board members. Alex Godwin will continue to serve as president with Brad Pounders, Josh Aycock, Sherea Burns and Braxton Linder. We’ll continue to provide quality TRAC races and promote other races on our new calendar. Our cross country camp participants will continue to receive great instruction in a fun environment led by UNA cross country standout Braxton Linder. We will begin to focus more attention to working with our community to provide a safe place to run. I’m sure you have read stories about harassment and even abduction of runners (particularly women runners) in other areas. We intend to take measures to prevent that sort of thing here in the Shoals area. Further, we will look for ways to work with our local high school cross country and track teams. Ideally, you will see a post on that topic soon.
Thanks for your continued support of TRAC and best wishes for 2017!
