This time of year, the racing calendar really heats up with lots of activity. Before we spring forward, congratulations to the women of the Junior League of the Shoals on doing a great job bringing back the Huff ‘n Puff 15K in Sheffield. There were volunteers all over the place with signs and loads of enthusiasm. The success achieved was a testament of how local government and a couple of organizations can work together and do some good.
Next week (March 18 at 7:00 am), Eddie Mason’s Solid Rock Timing will present the 2017 edition of the Running the Shoals Marathon and Half Marathon. This is a special event and you can register at http://runningtheshoals.itsyourrace.com/. It is also on our calendar.
Buck Wild at Joe Wheeler State Park takes place the following weekend.
One of my favorite races is the Bad Kitty 5K/10K. For the most part, it takes place on the trails at Wildwood Park and is set for April 22. It is also on our calendar. Register at http;//badkitty10K.itsyourrace.com/.
Finally, probably the most popular 5K in the Shoals, Swamper’s, will be April 29. TRAC will be sponsoring training runs on the course (start line is on Avalon in front of the school and just to the west of the pedestrian overpass). The first one is Sunday, March 19 at 2:00 pm. We’ll use the sidewalk for the Avalon portion.
